It's been on the lake since before the lake  filled. You may have been on this venerable vessels and not even have known it  at the time. The photos were taken in the summer of 1929, just  days before work on the project began. Twenty-one months later this quiet valley  would be the site of the world's largest man-made lake.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: medium;"&gt;&lt;img align="left" height="219" src="http://www.lakehistory.info/Osageriveraugust29.jpg" width="320" /&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: medium;"&gt;This photo looks westward from the dam site. Wilson Hill can be  seen prominently on the right. It's just west of present-day Lake Road W-24. The  pyramid-shaped knob in the left background (discernible behind and below the  tree branch) is Ginger Hill, at mile marker 2. The week of August 22nd-28th, &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.captainronsatthelake.com/"&gt;&lt;span style="color: red; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"&gt;Captain Ron's&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"&gt; at the 34.5 MM will be hosting the &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.lakeoftheozarksshootout.org/"&gt;&lt;span style="color: red; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"&gt;2011 "Lake of the Ozarks Shootout".&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; For those of you who are familiar with the tradition of the Shootout - there's not much more to say other than it's become a whole lot more than just a weekend event.&amp;nbsp;For those of&amp;nbsp;you who&amp;nbsp;don't know about the Shootout -&amp;nbsp;you'll definitely want to learn more!&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"&gt;Since the venue was moved from the old Shooter's 21 location to &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.captainronsatthelake.com/"&gt;&lt;span style="color: red; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"&gt;Captain Ron's&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"&gt;, I think the event has taken on a whole new spirit.&amp;nbsp; There are now activities that run the entire week including a golf tournament, treasure hunt, RC boat "mini shootout" and a fundraising auction, just to name a few.&amp;nbsp; All of the activities throughout the week lead in to the real star - the Shootout itself on Saturday and Sunday!
